Our names are Anya and Jules and we want to help make North Carolina a safe space for everyone. We want to rally support for House Bill 1061: The Plyler Educational Protections Act. This bill puts “immigration authority response plan” for if immigration services come. The plan includes an official for every school that checks warrant from immigrants. The teachers and adults are not allowed to collect immigration info, unless legally required. It also implements options for learning for students staying at home due to immigration fears. It disallows exclusion due to immigration status in schools and creates predictability in a chaotic system. We believe that this bill will make our community a better place.
